Gifting
Wrapping, what to choose for someone whose taste you do not know, and how to avoid guessing.
Last updated 26 September 2026
Perfume is a difficult gift, because the person receiving it has to like it and you cannot try it for them. Most of this page is about making that less of a gamble.
Gift wrapping
Tick the box at checkout and the order arrives wrapped, with the invoice left out of the parcel so the price is not the first thing they see. The fee and whether it is offered are shown in your basket before you pay.
If you would like a message included, reply to your order confirmation with the wording and we will write it in by hand. There is no charge for that.
What to choose when you are not sure
The honest answer: trial sizes
Two or three 5 ml bottles make a better gift than one 50 ml of the wrong thing. They cost less together, they let the person find which suits them, and nobody has to pretend. It is the least impressive-looking parcel and the one most likely to be worn.
If you know what they already wear
Tell us. Write to care@velmorris.com with the name of a fragrance they like and we will say which of ours sits nearest to it, or tell you plainly if none does. We would rather lose the sale than sell you something that gets left on a shelf.
If you know nothing at all
Then choose by the season and by weight rather than by note. A fresh, citrus-led fragrance is hard to dislike and easy to wear to work. A heavy oud or a dense amber is a stronger statement and a narrower bet — wonderful if it lands, awkward if it does not.
Ordering for someone else
- Put their address as the delivery address and your own email on the order, so the confirmation and the tracking come to you, not to them.
- Our courier telephones before delivering, so give a number that will be answered at that address — theirs, even though it spoils some of the surprise, is usually better than yours.
- Order with time to spare. Dispatch takes one to two working days and delivery three to seven; alcohol-based fragrances travel by road on some routes, which is slower. The Shipping Policy has the detail.
If they do not like it
An unopened, sealed bottle can be returned within seven days of delivery, so a gift that misses can still be undone — provided the seal is intact. Once it is opened we cannot take it back, for hygiene. The terms are on the Cancellation & Refund Policy.
Which is, again, the argument for trial sizes.
